Memorial service for Betty "Lougie" Miller will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at The First United Methodist Church in Claremore. Dr. Ray Crawford will officiate.

Betty Lou Miller passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the age of 84.

The daughter of Russell and Alice Steffens Allton was born January 23, 1933 in Claremore, Oklahoma. As a young girl, she spent her childhood in Claremore, attending Claremore schools. However, as she entered High School, her father, who was a career military man, was transferred to Ft. Walton, Florida, where she graduated as the Salutatorian of the class of 1951. After graduating, Betty, eager to return to Oklahoma, took a job working in Tulsa. There she climbed the ranks at the National Bank of Tulsa. She eventually became the first female officer of that bank.

It was also in Tulsa that Betty met Bill Miller. He was a local dentist getting ready to attend college to become an oral surgeon. They married in June of 1960. The newlywed couple then packed their bags and moved to Dallas. There Betty worked to support them while Bill finished school. Upon his completing school, they returned home to Tulsa. It was during this time that the next significant event happened to Betty. It was shortly after New Years Day, 1968, when baby Steffen was brought home. The new family made their home in Tulsa until 1972. At that point Betty made the decision to raise Steffen in her home town of Claremore, where she took a secretarial job making $2.50 an hour working for local businessman Frank Robson. Over the next 42 years, Betty worked closely with the Robson family and for Robson Properties. She retired in 2013, and to this day she considered them as part of her family.

In her spare time, Betty had many hobbies and pastimes. There was the love of traveling. She and many of her friends took annual trips, often to the northeast, visiting the New England area, OU football games, and the occasional trip overseas. She also loved her Birthday Club, which consisted of many local women gathering once a month to celebrate those birthdays. Most people also knew that she had a love for nice cars, owning almost every kind at some point except maybe a Cadillac. Then there was the unconditional love for all of her family. Coming from a small family, she made the effort to see all her family each and every year, no matter where she had to travel. However, her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment with them.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Alice, and brother, Douglas Allton.

Survivors include her son, Steffen Miller and wife Anglea; grandsons, Alexander and Grant Miller; great-grandsons, Cayden and A.J. Miller, and brother, Bill Allton and wife Jimmie.

Memorials may be made to the Claremore Public School Foundation at P.O. Box 575 Claremore, Oklahoma 74018.
