Services for Sophia Fields will be 2:00pm, Friday, October 24, 2014 at Emanuel Baptist Church; burial will follow at Lone Elm Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, October 23 from 1pm-8pm, family will received visitors from 6pm-8pm. Sophia passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the age of 89.
Sophia (Collier) Fields was born September 6, 1925 in Vian, Oklahoma to James Abraham and Lulu (Morris) Collier. She graduated from Sequoyah Indian School in Tahlequah and began working in the cafeteria at Camp Gruber. Sophia married Harry G. Fields on December 5, 1047 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She worked for Claremore Health Center for 24 years as a nurse’s aide. Following her retirement from the hospital, Sophia began a 15 year career with Claremore Public Schools as a cafeteria worker at Westside School.
When not hard at work, Sophia was involved with her church, Emanuel Baptist. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and quilting; her family was most important to her. Sophia was very dedicated to them and loved being with them as often as she could.
Sophia’s beloved family that survive include her children Aletha Brassfield, Valeria L. Fields, Holly L. Turner and Scott E. Fields; her grandchildren Matthew Fields, Amber Brassfield, Glen Turner III, Kyle Brassfield, Sophia Turner, Cindy Wilson and Justin Brassfield; her great grandchildren Alyssa Walkup, Carley Fields and Lillie Turner; her brother Abraham Collier; her sisters Jenny Mertens and Ella Anque. Sophia was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lucille Vann and Miza Beal, her brother Ed Collier and granddaughter Leslie Fields.
