Funeral service for Archa Brown will be held 1 p.m., Mon., Dec. 30, at the Chelsea Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Winganon Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sun. 1-6 p.m.
Archa Dora Brown passed away Tuesday December 24, 2013 in Vinita at the age of 92.
The daughter of George and Pearl Cain Mixson was born May 13, 1921 in Farmersville, Texas. When she was three her father took a job sharecropping in the Winganon area. There she would spend her childhood. One evening while at a local function she met Freeman Brown. They began dating and were married in 1938. Over the next couple of years Archa and Freeman lived in the Chelsea and Vinita area. Then around 1959 they moved to California. The next few years took her to Oregon, Washington and back to California. However in 1984 she decided to return to Chelsea. Taking care of her family was her life. She enjoyed sewing, and cooking for them, especially her grandchildren. She attended the Assembly of God Church for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Pearl; husband, Freeman Brown; daughter, Soleta Keuck, and granddaughter, Shelli Riggs, and brother Willie Mixson.
Survivors include her son, Billy "Buzzy" Brown and wife Rae of Chelsea; brother, Milton Mixson; grandchildren, Chris Brooks, Billy Joe Brown Jr, and Salli Waugh; 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
