Arthur Lee

Memorial service for Arthur Lee will be 11 a.m., Fri., Oct. 30, at the Inola Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Polson officiating. Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army.

Arthur passed away Wed., Oct. 28, 2015, at his home in Okmulgee, OK, at the age of 90.

The son of Abraham John Logan Lee and Nancy Elizabeth (Dyer) Lee Grimes was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Okemah. He grew up in the Brian's Holler area near Tahlequah before moving to Inola in the late '30's. He worked many jobs in the area including the grain elevator, on a ranch, and with the railroad. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1946, he married Betty Louise Castleberry in Columbus, KS. They made their home in Inola before Arthur re-enlisted in the Army. The family lived in Germany and Georgia, eventually settling in San Antonio, TX, until his retirement as Master Sergeant after 22 years of service. The family eventually moved back to the Inola area. Arthur was a member of the First Baptist Church; and served as Mayor of Inola from 1983-85. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and bowling. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2976, and Commander of the Inola VFW.

Arthur is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; sons: Jimmy Dale Lee and Jerry Wayne Lee; his parents, Abraham and Nancy Lee; granddaughter, Cheryl Lee; and siblings: Joseph Lee, Alvin Lee, John Lee, Walter Grimes, Ray Lee, Granville Lee, Jane Grimes, and Lena Lee.

Survivors included her children: Joyce Pagel and husband, Ronnie of Killeen, TX, John Lee and wife, Sue of Claremore, Denise Wise and husband, Richard of Okmulgee, and David Lee and wife, Roxanne of Inola; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; step-sister, Molly Tracy of Joplin, MO; sisters-in-law, Alberta McGuire of Inola, and Mary Jo Cole; brothers-in-law, John Ed Castleberry and wife, Jolene of Inola, Albert Castleberry, Jr., Ray Castleberry, and Lloyd Castleberry; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
