Barbara passed away Sun., Feb. 8, 2015, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, at the age of 76.

The daughter of Ross Crawford and Vernie Imo (Davis) Chandler was born Nov. 23, 1938, in her grandmother's house in Wellston. Barbara grew up and attended school in Blackwell, graduating from Blackwell High School in 1957. She continued her education at Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, and received her B.S. degree in home economics in 1961 from Oklahoma State University. At OSU, she was a member of the Home Economics Club, the Home Economics Education Club, and the Students National Education Association. She served on the Willard House Council and was listed on the Dean’s Honor Roll. Barbara met the love of her life, Patrick Dowd, at OSU in 1960. They were married on July 16, 1961, in Blackwell. The Dowd's made their home in Santa Monica, CA, Tulsa, and Kansas City before making their home in Claremore in 1973. While living in Claremore Barbara started substitute teaching at Verdigris schools, and later taught as a full time teacher at First Baptist Christian School. She had the gift of being able to teach all her sons at one time or another. The couple later moved to Oklahoma City and Tulsa, before moving to Grove in 2003. Barbara loved being a wife and mother, decorating and taking care of her home. She also enjoyed checking in with her family, sewing, needlework, and relaxing on the lake.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 53 years, Pat of the home; sons: Eric and wife, Kim of Claremore, Lyle and wife, Kimberly of Claremore, and Darin and wife, Nancy of Frisco, TX; brothers: Daniel Chandler of Chicago, IL, and David Chandler of Blackwell; and grandchildren: Tyson, Evan, Gates, Ryan, Sarah, and Kaylee.
