Funeral service for Barbara Ann Groff will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Chouteau Baptist Church. Pastor Tom Landsaw will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Mon. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Barbara passed away March 14, 2013 in Pryor at the age of 74.
The daughter of Howard Blakey and Phyllis W. Tennant was born April 26, 1938 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Her dad being an oilfield worker, the next several years of her life were spent moving throughout Texas. However around the age of 16 her family settled in Tulsa. There she attended Central High School, and served as a majorette. It was also there that she met her high school sweetheart Pat McCarty. They were married in 1956. To this marriage were born four children. After their separation in 1969 Barbara continued to live in Inola. There in 1976 she would later meet Sheldon Groff. They were married February 18, 1977. Over the next several years they would live in several place before finally settling in Chouteau. She quickly became an active part of the community helping with numerous organizations. Meals on Wheels, Pound Pals, and the Garden Club are just a few. She was also responsible for making the annual garden club directory. Her talents were also used for many other things such as making crafts for the yearly Christmas Bizarre, making flower arrangements for Meadowbrook nursing home, and helping her church with vacation bible school. She became so good with making flower arrangements, that she made several of her granddaughters flowers for their weddings. Other hobbies included traveling in the r.v, fishing, and shopping and garage saling with her friend Skez.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis.
Survivors include her husband, Sheldon Groff of the home; daughter Kelly Jantz husband Danny of Chouteau, son Mike McCarty of Tulsa, daughter Kristy Fugate and husband Ron of Inola, son Marty McCarty of Chouteau; grandchildren, Chad and Andi Fugate, Lindsey and Chad Thomoson, Shelby Fugate, Sara Stubblefield, Allison and Kevin Reed, Dillon McCarty, Carson McCarty, Amanda and Zac Trosky, Shelby and Jared Landburg, Angie and Spencer Henderson, Ashley and J.R. McGlassen, and Sammy McCarty. She was blessed with many great-grandchildren who include Ali, Annlee, Tinley, Kolton, Heidi, Annika, Kurtis, Keith, Triston, Emma, Hannah, Ethan, Gabe, Braxton, Piper, Cale, Carson, and Liam.
