Funeral service for Barbara Sue McClure will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Calvary Baptist Church in Inola. Visitation will be at Inola Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, September 1, from 1-8 p.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore. Barbara passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at the age of 83.
The daughter of Walter Grant and Georgia Geraldine (Wollaston) Maxey was born in Collinsville, OK on July 22, 1938. She graduated from Sequoyah High School in 1955. In December of that year, she married Virgle Franklin McClure, while he was home on leave from the Navy. They made their home in various communities in northeast Oklahoma, finally settling in the Inola area. She worked as a clerk at Redbud Grocery Store, where she retired in 1991.
Barbara was very active in her community. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sisters of Epsilon, Sigma Alpha, Inola Roundup Club, and Inola Senior Citizens. She enjoyed watching sports, particularly Inola High School basketball. She loved being outdoors, camping, fishing, and floating the river. By far, her most favorite hobby was spending time with her great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgle; son Mark Alan McClure; and granddaughter Kaila Boerner.
Those left to mourn her passing include her children Shelly David and husband Richard, Lisa Johnston and husband Lyndyll, Lori Boerner and husband James; grandchildren Amber Walker and husband Kevin, Shawnna Pratt and husband Les, Mitch David and wife Crystal, Cara Thompson and husband Caleb, Colt McClure and wife Roxanne, Joe McClure, Brittany Caffey; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Sharon Battenfield; brother-in-law Ovid Shank; and a host of lifelong friends, nieces, and nephews.
