Funeral service for Bernard Kenneth "Bernie" Terhune, Jr. will be 11 a.m., Thurs., Dec. 31, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel with Father Sylvanus Amaobi officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m.
Bernie passed away Mon., Dec. 28, 2015, at his home at the age of 68.
The son of Bernard Kenneth Terhune, Sr. and Cathrine Elizabeth (Dooley) Dewise was born June 21, 1947, in Neptune, NJ. He attended Middletown Township High School, graduating in 1966. While in high school he ran cross county and broke several school records. On Dec. 17, 1966, Bernie married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Hirst, in Ft. Dix, NJ. Bernie went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and then purchased his own 7-Eleven franchise in Old Bridge, NJ. He left the franchise after 8 years, and he and Cynthia moved to Claremore where they raised their children. Bernie worked in sales and design for Superior Cultured Marble and then Halcyon Marble Design for many years, retiring in 2014.
Bernie's love for photography began as a young teenager and he carried this love throughout his life. He shared this love and his knowledge to his children and grandchildren. When in high school, he worked part time at the Long Branch Daily Record newspaper as their photographer where he took pictures of several famous people.
Bernie was preceded in death by his father, Bernard K. Terhune, Sr.; mother, Cathrine DeWise; his twin brother, John Terhune; and sister, Gail DeWise.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia of the home; children: Lorraine Bonn and husband, Ralph of Wisconsin, Bernard Kenneth "B.K." Terhune, III and wife, Susan of Brussels, Belgium, and Troy Neal Terhune and wife, Stacey of Claremore; mother, Mildred A. Terhune of Middletown, NJ; siblings: Millie Terhune, William Terhune, Joanne Dewise, Kathleen Cardelfe, Donna Castello, James Dewise, Jr., Larry Dewise, Kevin Dewise, and Kenny Dewise; grandchildren: Kaylee, Matthew, Sheridan, Madison, Daniel, Ashley, Christopher, Alyssa, Christian, Jacob, Jackson, and Elijah; and great-grandchildren: Ayden, Jayce, Jeremiah, and Paige.
