Bertha Alma Fry

Funeral service for Bertha Dixon Fry will be held Wed., January 18, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Pastor Don Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 1-8 p.m.

Bertha passed away January 15, 2012, at Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 99.

Born May 3, 1912 in Conway, MO, to William Nathan and Rosy Florence (French) Dixon. She came to Oklahoma on a train as a young child with her family. They settled south of Claremore where she attended Chambers and Verdigris schools. On June 20, 1936, she married Maxwell Hayes Fry in a Pryor ceremony. In 1943, they moved to Oklahoma City where she resided in the same home until moving to Claremore in 2006. Bertha was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency at Tinker Air Force Base for a number of years. The job she enjoyed most was repairing the auto pilot instruments for the military. Among other hobbies, she and Max shared a love for restoring and driving antique cars. She was a member of First Bible Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where she was faithful to use her car to pick up the older ladies and children for Sunday School.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maxwell who passed away May 7, 1997; brothers, Everett Dixon and his wife, Pat, Howard Dixon and his wife, Pauline, and Doty Dixon; sisters, Mabel Foster-DeLay, Edith Millikin and husband, Harvey, Gladys Carter and husband, Hershel, Sarah Shelton and husband, Albert, and Wilma Smith and husband, Argus.

Survivors include her brother, Claude Dixon and wife, Ruby of Catoosa, and sisters, Verna Lee Chambers of Claremore, and Wanda Purkey and husband, Bill of Shawnee, KS; sister-in-law, Norma Dixon of Melbourne, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
