Funeral service for Roberta Vernon "Bertie" Hrdlicka will be 10 a.m., Fri., May 3, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Ray Crawford officiating. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Fri., at Luther Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-7 p.m.
Bertie passed away Mon., April 29, 2013, at Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 97.
The youngest of 11 children of Sam and Ann (Rogers) Abbott was born March 7, 1916, in Luther. She grew up in Luther, and graduated from Luther High School. While in high school, she enjoyed playing basketball. On May 13, 1933, she married Ernest Charles Hrdlicka in Guthrie. The couple made their home in Luther where they both worked for M & P Grocery Store. Ernie worked as a butcher, and Bertie as a checker. Ernie and Bertie later moved to Eufaula where they built a grocery store next to their home. They worked together in their own store, Bert and Ernie's Grocery, until they retired and sold the store in 1970. They were active members of the Methodist Church in Eufaula. The couple learned to garden from a neighbor and gardening became on their favorite pastimes. They made a large garden every year. Bertie also enjoyed quilting and crocheting. They moved to Claremore early in 1999 to be near their son, Larry and family. Bertie was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Bertie is preceded in death by her husband, Ernie in 2003; daughter, Marlene Warren; granddaughter, Lori Hrdlicka Bieligk; and 11 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Larry Joe Hrdlicka and wife, Fran of Claremore; grandchildren: John Warren and wife, Connie of Oklahoma City, Steve Warren and wife, Bonita of Eufaula, Mark Warren and wife, Christy of Owasso, Dr. Kyle Hrdlicka and wife, Charlotte of Claremore, and Leslie Cohen and husband, Harry of Claremore; great-grandchildren: Samuel Cole Bieligk, Nicholas Hrdlicka, Paige Hrdlicka, Brooke Hrdlicka, Brandon Hill, Peter Cohen, Lori Cohen, Conner Warren, Taylor Warren, Jillian Warren, Tyler Warren, and Lyndsey Atwood; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
