Funeral service for Betty Jean Benson will be 11 a.m., Tues., Oct. 29, at First Baptist Church of Chelsea with Pastor Jay McAlister officiating. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Mon. 1-8 p.m.
Betty passed away Fri., Oct. 25, 2013, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 81.
The daughter of Oscar F. and Letha (Long) Kidd, was born July 28, 1932, in Chelsea.
On Aug. 14, 1946, Betty married Fred L. Tatum. Fred worked in construction, so the family moved around. They lived in Tulsa, California, Colorado, Kansas, and Joplin, before moving back to Oklahoma in the late 60’s. They made their home in Ramona and then Nowata. Betty worked as a nurse in the health care industry. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school, and cleaned the church. Betty enjoyed spending time with her kids, attending church, and reading the Bible.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven Tatum; brothers: LaVern Kidd and Theron Kidd; and sisters: Jewell Bates and Mary Sue Bennett.
She is survived by her son, Alan Tatum of Chelsea; brother, Kenneth Kidd of Tulsa; sister, Erma Kilgore of Sand Springs; grandchildren: Alan, Brian, Chris, Patricia J., Julie, Kevin, Jeff, and Steven Tatum; and numerous great-grandchildren.
