Graveside service for Betty Joan Cook-Canary will be 2 p.m., Wed., March 20, at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City OK, with Rev. Duane Eggeston officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Betty died Fri., March 15, 2013, at her home at the age of 77.
The daughter of Joel and Rena Kernes was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Oklahoma City. Betty was raised and attended school in Cushing. On Aug. 17, 1952, she married Bryan Cook in Cushing. They made their home in Cushing and Midwest City, before moving to California in 1987. While there, she worked as an office manager in a pediatrician's office. In 1990, then moved to Edmond, and Bryan passed away in 1998. Betty later married Elmer Canary. May of last year she moved to Inola to be with her daughter. Betty enjoyed crocheting, painting, square dancing, reading and her family.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Bryan; second husband, Elmer; daughter, Rena Gail; sons: Bryan "Doug" Cook, and Randy Joe Cook; brother, Gene Kernes; and sister, Ellen Tabor.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Kim Pekrul and husband, Jeff; step-brother, Barrett Needels; step-sister, Edith Gordon; grandchildren: Sadie Kovash, Randal Joe Cook the 2nd, Crystal Boles, Courtney Hill, Lacey Haynes, and Lance Haynes; and great-grandchildren: Cassie, Austin, Alexis, Skylar, Lily, Taylor, A.J., Landon, Anna, and London.
