Service for Betty Garner will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel, burial will follow at Dick Duck Cemetery in Catoosa. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, January 31, from 1pm-8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6pm-8pm. Betty passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022. She was 82.
Born September 16, 1939 in Pryor, Oklahoma to Fred Warren and Nancy Lorene (Thompson) Brannon, Betty attended schools in Adair. She went to work out of high school, starting with Southwestern Bell, as an operator. In 1962 Betty married W.R. "Dub" Garner and the couple moved to several different parts of Oklahoma with his work before settling in Catoosa. Her job with Tulsa Public Schools as assistant librarian was very rewarding to Betty and her career spanned 20 years.
At home Betty was a wonderful wife and mother. She was up early to see that her family had a hot breakfast and a sack lunch to see them through the day. When they arrived home in the evening, there was a delicious home cooked meal waiting on them. Her love of her family was evident through her nurturing and caring ways. Betty was not only a great cook; she could can fruit and vegetables and crochet. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed attending church where she loved to sing.
Betty is survived by her son Dwain Garner and fiancée Sara Arzu, daughter Kim Bateman and husband Tom; her grandchildren Stephen Potter, Cassandra Bateman, Moddasy Bateman, Austin Tinkey, Tommy Bateman, Cyle Shelton, Aubrey Storelli, Amanda Hernandez, Exequiel Nieves; and Ashtyn Garner, Her great grandchildren Amber Moore, Anna Marie Shelton, Zion Shelton, Adalina Roseli Nieves, and Mateo Riley Hernandez; Betty’s siblings, Edna Riley, Rosie Laveral Hunter, and Kenneth Brannon. And nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband W.R. "Dub" Garner and her parents.
