Betty Jewell Jones

Funeral service for Betty Jewell Jones will be 2 p.m., Fri., July 5, at United Pentecostal Church of Chelsea with Rev. Edward Morey officiating. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of Chelsea Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 4-5 p.m.

Betty passed away Mon., July 1, 2013, at her home at the age of 87.

The daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Florence Mary (Coon) Morris was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Bluff City, KS. Betty graduated from Bluff City High School. At a young age Betty played the trumpet for the soldiers that lost their lives and returned home to the their final resting place. On Oct. 7 1946, Betty married Ira L. Jones in Memphis, TX. They made their home in Memphis, and Kansas, before moving to Chelsea. While living in Kansas, Betty helped with cooking for 75 men 3 times a day, while her husband worked with the railroad. She was very active in church all her life. She and Ira helped to build seven churches, including her son's church, United Pentecostal Church of Grove. She served many roles within the church including Ladies Ministry, Ladies Auxiliary secretary, Music Director, Song Leader, and Sunday School teacher. She was currently a member of New Life Apostolic Church in Claremore. Betty enjoyed quilting, sewing, and gardening. She made quilts for all of her grandchildren, and newborns born in the church.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Ira in 2004; son, Leslie P. Jones; her parents; 9 siblings; and great-great-great-granddaughter, Robin Jennings.

She is survived by her children: Mary A. Jones and husband, Burrel of Chelsea, Barbara S. Stoll and husband, Bruce of Fairbanks, AK, Linda M. Reed and husband, Leighton of Kansas, OK, David L. Jones and wife, Mona of Skiatook, and Randy R. Jones and wife, Lovella of Chelsea; siblings: David L. Morris of Anthony, KS, and Cleo E. Jelnick of Bluff City, KS; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
