Funeral service for Betty Carnes Peaster will be 11 a.m., Mon., Feb. 4, at First Christian Church with Pastor Charles Ragland officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Viewing will be held before the service.
Betty passed away Tues., Jan. 29, 2013, at St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, at the age of 87.
The daughter of Bert Tipton and Mary Elizabeth (Fouts) Carnes was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Stillwater. She graduated from Stillwater High School and continued her education at Oklahoma State University. She graduated in 1947 and went on to teach Chemistry as a graduate assistant at the college. On June 6, 1948, she married Harold Eugene Peaster in the First Christian Church in Stillwater. He took a job in Lawton where they made their home for many years. In
1982, Harold and Betty moved to Claremore to Harold's family's farm. Betty was a member of the First Christian Church of Claremore, and a past member of the First Christian Church of Lawton. She was also a past representative to Church Women United in Lawton. She was a talented cook and seamstress winning ribbons for a cake and a wedding dress she made. Family was her focus, teaching and playing with her children, planning family vacations even doing the taxes.
Betty is survived by her children: Eldon Peaster of Tulsa, Melvin Peaster and wife, Mardi of Copperas Cove, TX, and Marilyn Bohlender of Lawton; grandchildren: Reece Bohlender and wife, Trina of Wagoner, Morgan Bohlender of Claremore, and Amanda Peaster of Stillwater; step-grandchild: Kate Johnson; and step-great-grandchildren: Rustin, Kiah, and Abigail.
