Graveside service for Betty Whitfield will be 2:00p.m., Monday, April 14, 2014 at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens, under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Bro. Sam Nichols will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, from 4—6. Betty passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the age of 84.
Born December 2, 1929 in Tipton, Missouri, to Chris and Mary Geiser, Betty attended school in Tipton until the 8th grade, at which time she went to work to assist her family. On January 28 Betty married Harold L. Whitfield in a Sedalia, Missouri ceremony.
During her marriage to Harold, the family moved many times in the states of Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas, as Harold worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Each place they moved to, she would make it “home”, and all who knew them felt welcomed there. Betty was a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom until 1963, it was then that she took a position with Gateway Luggage Factory. Claremore was home the longest for the Whitfield family and when it came time to retire, they once again made their home here. Claremore was home until September of 2002, when health challenges necessitated a move to Harrison Arkansas to be close to family. Betty loved the Lord and her family very much. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, making many items for her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Mike Edwards of Harrison, Arkansas, her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Nancy Whitfield of Harker Heights, Texas and George and Karin Whitfield of College Station, Texas; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two granddaughters Stacy and Lacey Whitfield and her youngest son Arthur L. Whitfield, formerly of Claremore.
