Bill Dikeman

August 30, 1938 — July 26, 2014

Funeral service for Bill Dikeman will be held 10:00 Thursday, July 31, 2014 at North Park Trinity Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Clark will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Talala under the direction of the MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.

Bill passed away July 26, 2014 at his home in Claremore at the age of 75.

William Benjamin Dikeman, the son of Melvin Ben and Maggie Hendricks Dikeman was born August 30, 1938 in Claremore, Oklahoma. As a young boy he was raised on the family farm in the Sequoyah area. Bill attended Sequoyah schools where he excelled as a left handed pitcher. He graduated in the spring of 1957. Upon graduation Bill signed with the St. Louis Cardinals to play baseball. Over the next couple of years Bill excelled in the Cardinals developmental league. Playing most of his ball with the Keokuk, Cardinals.

In the summer of 1959 Bill married his high school sweetheart, Etta Jo Self. They made their home in the Claremore area. However for the next several months they traveled with the baseball team. Then after the birth of his first daughter, Bill decided to leave baseball behind and concentrate totally on his family. The moved back to Claremore where bill began his working career. Over the next several years Bill worked for the Claremore Police Department,, Oklahoma Military Academy, Peabody Coal, and most recently as a security guard.

In his spare time Bill enjoyed many activities. A few of his favorites were watching Cardinal baseball, fishing, and woodwork. However one of his favorites was making wooden fishing lures with his grandson Taylor.

He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Maggie Dikeman.

Survivors include his daughters, Terri Moss of Claremore and Tonya Jordan of Claremore; brother, Jim Dikeman of Claremore; grandchildren, Jason Moss, Rob Moss, Taylor Jordan, Wes Jordan, and Dylan Jordan; aunts, Pearl Youngman of Fullerton, California, and Jane Egleston of Claremore along with many other cousins and friends.
