Services for Bill Neal Murphy will be 2:00p.m., Friday, December 30, 2016 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel, burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, December 29 from 1pm--8pm with family receiving visitors from 6pm--8pm. Bill passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2016 at Claremore Nursing Home. He was 85.
Born May 17, 1931 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to William Lee and Amada Janie (Hemphill) Murphy, Bill was reared and educated in Rogers County, graduating from Chelsea High School with the class of 1949. In 1956 he enlisted with the United States Air Force and served his country until his honorable discharge. Following his military service Bill worked as a sheriff under the leadership of Amos Ward. He also enjoyed working with horses and trained many throughout the years. While in Eureka, Kansas training horses, Bill met his future bride, Sue. The couple married and lived in Claremore and Eureka, Kansas. Following Sue's passing, Bill moved back to Claremore.
An avid sports fan, Bill loved the OU Sooners. His hobbies were varied and he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and being around horses. The most important thing in his life was spending time with his family.
Those family members that survive include his daughter Frances Dudley and husband Johnie of Claremore; his brother Ronnie Murphy of Broken Arrow; his grandchildren Felicia Tecumseh, Jonathon Dudley, Ashley Norvel and Jerry Jones; his great grandchildren Cheyann, Stonie, Ashton and Jaley. Bill was preceded in death by his parents 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
