Funeral service for Billy Gene Potts will be 11 a.m., Thurs., May 9, at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen Posey officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Navy will follow at Lone Elm Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-6 p.m.
Billy died Sun., May 5, 2013, at his home at the age of 79.
The son of Walter Eugene and Velma Lavada (Wilson) Potts was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Grandfield. Billy was drafted at the end of the Korean War, but was able to stay home a couple of years to help take care of his mother and sister. He entered the Navy in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. For 40 years Bill worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. On July 16, 1966, Bill married Sharon (Methvin) Potts. He loved the Lord and his family, and attended St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Bill was a four time cancer survivor, and had fully recovered from two major strokes several years ago. He loved watching westerns, playing dominoes, and fishing. At Christmas time he enjoyed playing Santa for parties.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Margie Walker.
He is survived by his daughters: Shelly L. Davis, and Shaine Elizabeth Nichols and husband, Paul all of Claremore; grandchildren: Hannah, Hailey, and KateLynn Nichols, and Aiden Davis; mother of his daughters, Sharon Potts; niece, Suzanna Bailes and husband, Brad; grandniece, Kallie; grandnephew, Michael; and 6 great-grand nieces and nephews.
