CAROL IRENE (Collins) STORY
Carol, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed into heaven on May 20, 2020. She and her husband John were high school sweethearts and married 54 blessed years. She is survived by her daughter Stacy Risenhoover and husband Randy of Verdigris and son Slade Story and wife Jennifer of Broken Arrow; also grandchildren Kelsey McKay and husband Ethan, Courtney and McKenzie Risenhoover, Cole Story and wife Tasia, Joshua and wife Searra, Sarah, Noah, and Moriah Story; and great grandchildren Riley and Ember McKay, and Mika and Jemma Story.
Carol was born on February 24, 1946, the daughter of Jack and Lois Collins. She grew up on the family dairy farm near the Verdigris river; she milked cows, worked in the hayfield, and hauled silage. She loved the farm work and always had fun doing it with her brothers and sisters. Carol was very athletic and especially loved playing basketball.
She attended Verdigris Grade School and then Claremore High School where she and John Story fell in love—best friends forever. They were enthusiastic sports fans and thank goodness all their kids and families loved to play sports. Carol was like a second mother and grandmother to many and influenced a whole slew of kids in the family.
Carol is also survived by 5 sisters and 3 brothers—Reg Collins and wife Pat, Lezle Treadwell and husband John T., Clay Collins, Trent Collins and wife Jennifer all of Verdigris; Jacque Young of Tulsa; Sharon Breeding of Oklahoma City, Lavonne Reavis of Chelsea, and Meredith Self and husband Brent of Perkins. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and other family members.
Her love, compassion, and kindnesses will be missed by all.
Carol's Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 27th, 10 am at Harvest Baptist Church, Verdigris. Interment immediately following at Woodlawn, Claremore. Service will be live streaming on Facebook. Visitation is Tuesday 4-7 pm at MMS-Payne, Claremore.
