Funeral service for Charles Horton will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the House of Prayer Church. Burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens, where he will be laid to rest beside his mother Lola.
Charles Eugene Horton passed away on Sunday, May 7th, 2023 at the age of 86. Whether you knew him as Chuck, Pops, Charlie, Grandpa, Papa or G-Pa, he was a man greatly loved by his friends and family.
The son of Ernest and Lola Jarvis Horton, Chuck was born on September 16th, 1936 in Socorro, Texas. As a young boy he moved near El Paso to live with his grandparents. There he helped them on the family farm, primarily raising cotton. During this time he attended Stephen F. Austin High School. At the age of 19, Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy. During his 20 years of service, 16 years were at sea, traveling to may parts of he world. At the beginning of his career, Chuck was a recruiter in Claremore; during the Vietnam conflict, he was aboard a minesweeper off the coast of Vietnam. Upon his discharge in 1976, Chuck returned to Claremore to be near his family. He then started his second career at Air -XChangers, where he retired in 1998. It was also during this time that he met Linda Chaney Campbell. They began dating and married on January 17, 1998, becoming a blended family of 7 adult children. Chuck, being a person who is not good at just sitting around, decided to return to work. He drove for Highland Express, which transported new recruits to Oklahoma City. Later he worked at Crystal Clean Car Wash.
In his spare time Chuck enjoyed bowling, traveling, attending Broadway plays, playing jokes on his friends and family and working in his yard. He enjoyed working with wood and playing games with the family, Chuck was up for any type of fun.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Horton, and Lola Jarvis, and grandson, Brandon Graham.
Survivors include his wife Linda Horton, mother-in-law Thelma Chaney, children, David Horton and wife Leaann, Darin Horton and wife Rhonda, Joy Horton, Diana Horton, Lisa Reichert and husband Tony, Lori Maples and husband Austin, Eric Campbell and wife Leisa. He also had 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Mike Wright, sister, Juanita Watkins and many other extended family.
