Chick Adams

Memorial service for Wilton Ross “Chick” Adams will be 11 a.m., Mon., Feb. 24 at the Inola Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Rasmussen officiating.

Chick passed away Wed., Feb. 19, 2014, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 88.

The son of John and Iva (Poole) Adams was born July 28, 1925, in Warren, Arkansas. In 1929, the family moved to Oklahoma City where Chick attended school. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School, and went on to graduate from Blackwood Business College in Oklahoma City. In 1951, Chick married Mary Lee Ross in Oklahoma City where they made their home. Chick served in the U.S. Air Force from March 1951 to August 1953. He was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Austin, Texas and also on Matagorda Island, off of the coast of Texas. Chick served with the Oklahoma City Fire Department from 1945 to 1965. After his retirement he went to work for Kerr McGee for around 16 years. Chick’s wife, Mary Lee, passed away in 1991. In July of 1992 he married Mary Ellen (Shrier) Nixon. They made their home in Moore before moving to Inola in 1997. Chick was very active in his church, Grace Communion International, where he served as an elder. His hobbies included golfing and working crossword puzzles. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with family.

Chick is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mary; sons: Jerry Adams and wife, Sylvia, and Allen Adams; daughter, Lee Ann Davenport and husband, Galen; grandsons, Keegan Davenport and wife, Casey, and Richard Adams; granddaughter, Jessica Adams; great-grandchild, Jordan Adams; step-sons: John Nixon and wife, Jacque, and Jeff Nixon; and step-grandson, Evan Nixon.
