Chuck Edward Griffin

Memorial service for Charles Edward "Chuck" Griffin will be 11 a.m., Mon., July 14, at Eden Mennonite Church, Inola. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Chuck passed away Wed., July 9, 2014, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 84.

The son of Charles Elroy and Dorothy (McClaskey) Griffin was born March 1, 1930, in Okmulgee. He lived in Tulsa until the age of 16 when he moved to Inola. In 1948, Chuck graduated from Inola High School, and on June 20 of that same year he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served at several bases throughout the U.S. and was in French Morocco, North Africa. He received his discharge as a Staff Sergeant. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served until Feb. 1956. He was discharged as a Sergeant. Chuck went to work for American Airlines where he remained for 31 years working his way to crew chief and inspector. He retired on June 1, 1983. His hobbies included Ham radio where his call was, "K5CG". He was also a gunsmith, and built violins for over 25 years. Chuck was a member of the Marine Corps League and Claremore Chrysler Club.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ann (Penner) Griffin of the home; children: Michael Griffin and wife, Elba of Oak Point, Texas, James Griffin of Inola, and Suzanne Gaebelle and husband, Brent of Broken Arrow; grandchildren: Stanley Monschau and wife, Ronda, James W. Griffin, II, and wife, Jessica, Dottie Miller and Rebekka Griffin; great-grandchildren: Arora, Alexander, and Andrew Monschau; and sisters: Mary Lou Spegal of New London, MO, and Carol Philpot and husband, Leon of Grand Prairie, TX.
