Service for Cynthia H. "Cindy" Terhune will be 2:00p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 27 from 1pm-8pm. Cindy passed away at her home on Saturday, March 24, 2018. She was 69.
Born August 21, 1948 in Red Bank, New Jersey to Theodore Joseph Hirst, Sr. and Lorraine Dorothea (Dougherty) Hirst, Cindy attended Middletown Township High School, graduating with the class of 1967. She married her high school sweet heart, Bernard Kenneth Terhune, Jr. on December 17, 1966 at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. The couple purchased their own 7-Eleven franchise in Old Bridge, New Jersey and operated for the next 8 years. Later the family made a move to Oklahoma to be near family and a smaller community to raise their children.
The family first lived in Tulsa before settling in Claremore. Cindy began working in human resources with the Department of Human Services. Her career took off and she began working with the disabled in training and job placement. This was just the right fit for Cindy, her compassion and eagerness in helping was a gift she lovingly gave to anyone she helped. She was awarded with many citations during her dedicated service with DHS.
Following her retirement in 2010, Cindy continued with helping where she could. The role as caretaker was one that she excelled in, being a medical proxy for a couple of friends. Cindy also enjoyed gardening, interior design, and shopping. Her family was most important to her and she spent as much time with them as she could. Cindy was a wonderful cook and she loved making her families favorite dishes. She once said that “Marth Stewart wishes she was me”. Always willing to help with advice to those who would take it, Cindy truly wanted to take care of everyone she met.
Those family members that survive include her children Lorraine D. Bonn and husband Ralph of Racine, Wisconsin and Troy N. Terhune and wife Stacey of Claremore; her grandchildren Kaylee, Matthew, Sheridan, Madison, Daniel, Ashley, Alyssa, Christopher, Jacob, Christian, Jackson and Elijah; her great grandchildren Ayden, Jeremiah, Jayce and Paige and two more on the way; her brother Theodore J. Hirst, Jr. and wife Kathy of Florida and sister Sandra L. Keneally and husband Gary of Claremore and her daughter-in-law Susan R. Terhune.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernie Terhune, and her son Bernard “B.K.” Terhune.
