Funeral service for Clifford Myron Nelson was 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel, Fred Naumann officiated.
Clifford passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the age of 90.
The son of Howard and Thelma Doggett Nelson was born October 23, 1926 in Jerome, Arizona. As a young boy, Clifford and his family moved a couple of times before settling in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating, he joined the United States Navy. Upon his discharge, Clifford returned to Kansas City. There, a short time later, he met Barbara Daniels. They would marry on September 18, 1954 in Overland Park, Kansas.
The newlywed couple made their home in Kansas City, Missouri, where he had taken a job working for Nabisco. A few years later, around 1979, Clifford and his family would move to Shawnee, Kansas. There he began his career as a long haul trucker. His experience in that field would eventually move him to Carl Junction, Missouri and later to Claremore, Oklahoma. He continued working as a truck driver for Steel Service Company, until an accident forced him to retire in 1988.
In his spare time Clifford had a few hobbies that he enjoyed. Model railroading was a big favorite, as well as bowling when he was younger. More recently, he could be found woodworking.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Thelma; grandchildren, Jessica Anne Nelson and Jon Ross Townsend, and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home; sons, Chris Nelson and wife Marilyn of Wichita, Kansas, Jon "Michael" Nelson of Bartlesville, Kenneth Nelson of Claremore and Galen Nelson of Hong Kong; grandchildren, Cody, Ryan, Matt, and Jeremy Nelson, and Jennifer Tucker; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and sister, Muriel Nelson.
