Prayer service for Daniel "Dan" McNamara will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa.
Daniel James McNamara went to be with the Lord May 30, 2011 at the age of 92.
The son of Martin and Mary Franken McNamara was born January 19, 1919 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. He attended Wagoner schools where he excelled in football. After graduating in the spring of 1937, Dan enrolled at Connors State College. A short time later he found himself serving in the National Guard. While performing duties in Tulsa he met Helen Keithley. They were married August 31, 1940 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Tulsa. The next few years found Dan working different jobs. He served as Policeman in Bartlesville, Fireman at the powder plant in Pryor and working construction for a pipeline company in Canada. However after moving to Bushyhead in 1944, Dan started a contract dirt business. For nearly 30 years he ran a bulldozer, while somehow finding a way to build 5 homes. Later he raised protein fed catfish, and managed the Foyil Farm Co-Op. He was always an active member of his community. He served on the Bushyhead school board, rural water district board and as an Eldercare volunteer. He also an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. There he served in the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies include telling jokes, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Mary; son, Daniel McNamara Jr., and foster son Jeremiah Whisenant.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years Helen McNamara of the home; sons, Patrick McNamara and Michael McNamara of Claremore; daughters, Margaret "Marty" McNamara of Tulsa, and Dr. Danette Boyle and husband, Ron of Tulsa; grandchildren, Christopher McNamara and wife Amanda, Kevin McNamara, Kathleen McNamara, and Matthew Boyle; Nieces, Sally Howe Smith, Nancy Howe Lassister, and Debbie Dixon Chamberlin; nephews, Dr. Elliott Howe and Timothy Dixon, and kind friend Penny Henninger along with many other friends.
