Service for Danny Leon Barbee will be 2:00p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel; burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 21, at the funeral home from 1—8, with family receiving visitors from 6—8. Danny passed away at his home on Friday, April 18, 2014. He was 64.
Born March 10, 1950, in Claremore, to Ballie and Evelyn (Fidler) Barbee, Danny was reared and educated in his birth community. While young Danny worked in the hay fields with his brother and cousins. Following his schooling he worked in the heating and air-conditioning field for a time and also worked at the sale barn. He later became a truck driver. Danny most enjoyed riding horses and raising chickens.
His hobbies were many, hunting and fishing to name a few. When he was young, he and a few buddies started a rock and roll band called Danny & The Hideaways. Danny’s love of music continued through his life and he loved teaching the little ones in his family the song, “You Are My Sunshine”.
Danny is survived by his wife Starla Brewer; his children Justin Barbee and wife Amanda of Wichita Falls, Texas, Shashonna Mefford and husband Mike of Pryor, Kimberlye Shatto and husband Brian of Claremore, Vicky Burkhart of Tulsa and Danette Erikson of Claremore; 18 grandchildren and one on the way; 14 great grandchildren; his siblings Niketa Basks and husband Leroy, Lucky Barbee and wife Paula, and Gail Barbee and Michael all of Claremore; his dog Angle and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Danny was preceded in death by his parents his sons Jeremy and Adam Barbee.
