Funeral service for Darrol Olsen will be 10 a.m., Fri., Feb. 15, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Jamey Gilliland officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Air Force will follow at Oowala Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
Darrol entered into eternal rest after a brief illness on Feb. 12, 2013.
Darrol was born Oct. 15, 1925 in Humboldt, KS to, and preceded in death by his parents Ole Kermit Olsen and Darlene Isabel Wilbur. On Sept. 11, 1950 he married his wife of 62 years, Mary Ruth Brown in Claremore, OK. Darrol was a graduate of Humboldt High School in Humboldt, KS, and enjoyed his reunions looking forward to them every few years. Darrol also attended Spartan Aeronautical School in Tulsa. He served honorably in the United States Air Force for three years during WWII. He also attended Southern Methodist University.
He became an aeronautical engineer for American Airlines, Rohr Aircraft and finally retired from Lockheed Corp. after 25 years of service. Darrol also enjoyed working in his younger years for his father's business, Olsen Seismograph Supply Independent. Darrol enjoyed spending time with his 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. After moving to Dallas, TX, Marietta, GA, Riverside, CA, Lancaster, CA, Garland, TX; he finally moved back to Claremore, OK, in 2006.
Darrol is loved, missed and survived by: Mary Ruth Olsen (wife) of Claremore, OK, Darrol Jr. and Lynette Olsen of Claremore, OK, Bob and Janet Olsen of Juniper Hills, CA, Jim and Dena Olsen of Claremore, OK, Sara and Gene Moore of Tulsa, OK and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
