Daryl McClure

Memorial services for Jessie “Daryl” McClure will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Father Paul Eichhoff will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday May 1, from 1pm—7pm with family receiving visitors from 5pm—7pm. At 7pm there will be a prayer service. Daryl passed away on April 28, 2015 at the age of 75.

Born March 26, 1940 in Tiawah, to Albert Virgle and Dovie Lorene (Bowman) McClure, Daryl was reared and educated near his birth community. He attended Tiawah schools through the eighth grade and completed his high school years at Inola, graduating with the Class of 1958. He continued his education by attending Oklahoma Military Academy for a few years. Daryl worked various jobs while in school and after. He hauled lots of hay and worked as a caddy for the local golf course. After his schooling he worked at WC Norris for a time before he began his 30 plus year career with Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1966. His first position was out of Tulsa as a lineman, he eventually took the job working out of Chelsea, until retiring in 1997.

On November 27, 1967, Daryl married Joan Guilfoyle and the couple made their home in Keetonville before moving to Chelsea in 1974. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bird watching, panning for gold, square dancing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a soft spoken man that could strike up a conversation with anyone. Daryl was committed to his family and they could always count on him in their time of need.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Daryl is survived by his family which include his wife Joan of their home in Chelsea; his children Steve McClure and wife Karen also of Chelsea, Connie Murry and husband Gil of Emmet, Arkansas and Lynda Hougam and husband Kurt of Franklin, Wisconsin; his grandchildren Travis McClure, Fontella Martin, Justin McClure, Troy McClure, Brian Quantie, Jessie Shinn and Robert Shinn; his great grandchildren Zachery, Andrea, Emily, and Ryan Martin, Trystan, Lillyonna, and Nevaeh McClure, Julian and Aryanna McClure, Mackinzie McClure, Liberty Strickland, Kyle Ackley, Anthony Ellis, Madison, Jonathan, and Aaron Quantie, Jordan and Jacob Shinn; his sister Sharon Battenfield of Glenpool and sister-in-law Barbara McClure of Inola; his brother Ovid Shank of Claremore and many nieces and nephews. Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jonathan Quantie, brother Virgil McClure and his sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Wardie
Lawson.
