Funeral Service for Davey Jon Kiger was 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the Chelsea Memorial United Methodist Church with Bro. Stephen Posey officiating. Burial followed at Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Davey passed away Thursday, January, 26, 2017 at the age of 68.
The son of Clarence William "P.I." and Madge Brashears Kiger was born July 8, 1948, at home in Panama, Oklahoma. He was raised in Panama, attending Panama schools, where he excelled in football. After graduating in 1966, Davey continued his education at Northeastern State University. Wanting to continue playing football, Davey decided to walk-on at Northeastern. He was redshirted the first year, then had a successful collegiate football career. It was while attending NSU that he met Phyllis Fry. They were married December 18, 1969, in Tahlequah. The newlywed couple lived in Tahlequah until they graduated. Upon graduating, Davey moved back home to Panama. He began helping his dad run the Family Drug Store. He did this until it was time to begin boot camp for the National Guard.
After completing training with the National Guard, Davey began his working career. He took a job working in Poteau for Wal-Mart. Over the next several years he would work for Firestone, and Wal-Mart again, before deciding to become an over the road truck driver. He even opened up an army surplus store in between. Davey loved driving a truck, and did so until retiring from Heartland Trucking just a few years ago.
In his spare time, Davey loved hunting, fishing, and going to auctions. He was also active in the Methodist Church, and belonged to the Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by father, Clarence William Kiger, mother, Madge Marie Brashears Kiger, and brother, Ronnie Kiger. Family members that survived are wife, Phyllis Ann Kiger; siblings, Bennie Kiger and wife Mary Nell, Sue Irvin, Joe Kiger and wife Beverly; mother-in-law Lorene Fry; brother-in-law Jim Fry and wife Sharon; and many nieces and nephews.
