Service for David Weston will be 11:00a.m., Thursday, October 24, 2024, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 23, from 1pm-7pm, with family receiving visitors from 5pm-7pm. A rosary will be held at 7pm at the funeral home following visitation. David went home to be with the Lord after a brief struggle against cancer. He was surrounded by family and his beloved pets. He was a great husband, father, papa and dog dad. He will be missed every day.

David, 84, was born on February 26, 1940. He was the oldest and only boy of 3 children born to Walter P. and Gloria Weston (Griffith).

David left high school during his senior year and enlisted in the Navy on December 11, 1958. He was assigned to the USS Des Moines upon completing training and receiving his GED. He completed sub training and was transferred to the USS Bashaw SS 241 on November 10, 1962. He served on the USS Bashaw SS 241 until his honorable discharge from the navy on September 10, 1962. While serving active duty he met and married Mary Cathryn Vierheller of Claremore, Oklahoma, on September 26, 1960. They settled in Miami after his discharge from the Navy, and began adding to their family. They brought 5 children into the world.

David worked at different jobs including the Goodrich tire factory and Safeway Grocery, before enrolling at NEO A&M, then OSU to receive a B.S. in Technical Education.

David accepted a teaching job at the Altus Junior College in 1970. He was there for 4 years before he relocated his family to Claremore, Oklahoma. Once in Claremore, he went to work at Pixley Lumber Company, where he stayed until he retired.

David enjoyed working with wood and building furniture. He concentrated on his family for several years.

In his retirement, once his kids were self-sufficient and he had time to pursue what he loved, he became active at the local Sub Vet organization and the Muskogee War Memorial Park: USS Batfish. He was an active member of St. Cecilia Church. David also had a avid interest in genealogy and tracing his family tree. He was an animal lover and enjoyed time with his dogs and playing fetch with his grand dog.

David is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Cathryn Weston (Vierheller), four sons, Michael D. Weston and wife Amanda, John E. Weston, Christopher T. Weston and wife Gena, Mark A. Weston, and one daughter, Theresa "Renee" Weston, 9 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. We expect many more. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter and Gloria Weston, 2 sisters, Diane M. Weston and Claudia M. Weston, grandparents, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, David would encourage you to make a donation to the Muskogee War Memorial Park, to aid in the relocation of the USS Batfish, which was displaced during flooding. This cause was very important to him.
