Funeral service for Delbert Coleman "Del" Guess will be 2 p.m., Tues., June 23, at Foyil First Assembly of God with Pastor Jack DaMico officiating. Military honors will be by the U.S. Navy. Burial will follow Oakhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Del passed away Thurs., June 18, 2015, at the age of 87.
The son of Floyd W. Guess and Lottie (Moffiett) Guess was born July 25, 1927 in Perryville, AR. Del's father was a minister and the family moved to many places. As a child Del was a good marble player. He would win and collect the marbles and then sell them to the other children. After high school Del served in the US Navy during WWII. He then made his home in Wichita, KS, where he ran a gas station before moving to California where he drove a truck for Yuba Heat for 18 years. In 1971, Del moved to Arkansas, and in 1973, moved to Claremore where he began Del's Fence Company. In 1981, Del married Gwendolyn Frieda Sartin. Del retired in 1996, and was able to dedicate his time to restoring and selling old cars.
Del was preceded in death by his parents.
He is surived by his wife, Gwen of the home; children: Ken Guess and wife, Donna of Owasso, Vickie Ellis and husband, Melvin of Ketchum, and Renae Bailey and husband, Craig of Russellville, AR; step-son, Ronnie Capps of Claremore; sister, Ella Jean Ladner of Claremore; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
