Delmer Oscar Hardenberger

Delmer Oscar Hardenberger passed away on March 31, 2023. He was 89 years old. Delmer was a twin born to James and Nellie Hardenberger in Falls City, Nebraska, which is where he grew up and attended school.
 
After his high school years, he felt a call to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army in 1954. In 1957, he married his beloved wife, Ellen. During the Vietnam War, he served as a Green Beret, and was wounded in action. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his heroism. Delmer established a career in the Army and served a total of 22 years. He did three tours of duty in Germany, where he spent several years with his family. When his career ended, he was a Sergeant First class. 
 
Delmer loved to joke around with his friends and family. Some of his hobbies he enjoyed were woodworking, fishing, building model airplanes and building wooden clocks. Delmer was very involved in the local community and he served as a Boy Scout master, as well as director of the American Youth Activities and a baseball umpire. He was also an active member of the VFW. 
 
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Nellie Hardenberger; wife Ellen Hardenberger; three brothers and two sisters; and one Son-In-Law Steve Dobias.
 
Delmer is survived by his children, Donnie Hardenberger and wife Doris, Bil Hardenberger and wife Christine, Pete Hardenberger and wife Chris, Meleanie Schafer and husband Jim, and Lisa Dobias; 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; Special friend and care taker Tonya Gaffney along with many other nieces, nephews and other extended family, as well as his special dog Bonita and his three cats.
