Dennis Dean Craig

Graveside service for Dennis Dean Craig will be 2 p.m., Mon., June 8, at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with his grandson, Cole Horner, and Chaplain Forest Kirk officiating. Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army. Burial will follow under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Dennis passed away Wed., June 3, 2015, at Hillcrest Hospital Claremore at the age of 71.

The son of Norman Craig and Isabel (Gebhart) Craig was born Nov. 12, 1943, in Abilene, KS. Dennis graduated from Abilene High School and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army as a mechanic. He served during the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years of service in 1983. He then went to work at Americus High School until 2005.

On June 6, 2005, he married Donna Thurman. They lived in Claremore until 2013, when they moved to Chelsea so Dennis could be closer to his work. Dennis worked at Nowata Public Schools from 2012 until his passing.

Dennis will be remembered for his ability to fix anything. He was called upon by family and friends often for help with mechanics and carpentry problems. He was known as "Papaw" to his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and grandchildren: Dakotah Craig and Amanda Alford.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Donna of the home; children: Tonya Morgan and husband, Keith of Monroe, LA, Missy Addison and husband, Stephen of Hornbeck, LA, and Dennis Dean Craig, II of Hornbeck, LA; step-children: Connie Ryan and husband, David of Claremore, Joe Horner and wife, Cinda of Claremore, and Michael Horner and wife, Christi of Nowata; sisters: Phyllis Potter and husband, Dick of Iola, KS, Donna Miller of Americus, KS, and Pat Bonde of Americus, KS; grandchildren: Joe Price, Brett Price, Marli Price, Andrew Alford, Laura Hovermale, Jade Price, Julia Craig, Sean Ryan, Laura Ryan, Stephen Ryan, Cole Horner, Mallory Horner, C.J. Horner, Shelby Ervin, Jake Horner, and Aaryn Horner; and numerous great-grandchildren.
