Dereck Aziz DiazdeLeon

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. A Rosary service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Dereck Aziz DiazdeLeon passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at the age of 15.

The son of Lorenzo and Arianna Arteaga DiazdeLeon was born October 21, 1997 in California. As a young child he and his family moved to Oklahoma. They settled in the Tulsa area for a few years before moving to Inola. When he became old enough Dereck began attending Inola Public Schools. It became apparent early that Dereck was a very special person. He quickly earned a spot on the Superintendent's and Principal's honor rolls. When it was time for the academic team to be formed, Dereck was quickly selected as a member. His team ended up being district and regional champions. He also participated in the science bowl, and that team earned a trip to the state finals. Most recently he was voted by his 8th grade class as the "Brainiest". School was very important to Dereck, but he also enjoyed numerous other activities. You could find him lots of time hanging out with his cousins and friends riding skateboards. He also loved music he could play several instruments, but bass guitar was one of his favorites. While in the junior high band it was his instrument of choice. Dereck was a loving, kind, generous and friendly person with a great big smile who will be missed by all.

He is survived by his parents Lorenzo and Arianna DiazdeLeon; sister, Shecid DiazdeLeon; grandparents, Fortunato and Hermila DiazdeLeon, and Mario and Esperanza Arteaga and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
