Funeral service for Dewey Lee Horner will be 2 p.m., Friday, September 16, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Bishop Bell officiating. Burial with military honors and masonic rites will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
Dewey passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at his home at the age of 69.
The son of Dewey Murle Horner and Ruth Janella (Mallory) Horner was born November 13, 1946, in Pomona, CA. Dewey was raised in California and Oklahoma, graduating from Sequoyah High School in 1966. Dewey was a member of the baseball, track, and volleyball teams; and was voted the friendliest among his peers. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served from 1966-68 in the Artillery Battalion during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the Army he made his home in Houston, TX. On Feb. 26, 1969, he married Donna Thurman in Houston. In the fall of 1969, they moved to Claremore. Dewey worked for several companies throughout the years including the State of Oklahoma Highway Department as a surveyor, Sweetwater Coal Mine, PSO, and AEP. On September 5, 1998, he married Patsy Armbrister in Eureka Springs. They made their home in Claremore. Dewey loved being outdoors camping and fishing. He also enjoyed motorcycles and watching boxing matches. Dewey was a 32nd degree member of the Will Rogers Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He attended First Assembly of God in Claremore, and Bethel Chapel when he was able.
Dewey was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy of the home; children: Connie Ryan and husband, David of Claremore, Joe Horner and wife, Cinda of Claremore, and Michael Horner and wife, Christi of Nowata; step-children: Elizabeth Hull of Tulsa, and Bryan Casey and wife, Tracey of Claremore; father, Dewey Horner of Claremore; grandchildren: Sean Ryan and wife, Pi-Ju, Laura Ryan, Stephen Ryan, Shelby Ervin and husband, Coty, Cole Horner, Mallory Horner, C.J. Horner, Jacob Horner, Aaryn Horner, Ryan Hull, Ayden Floyd, Garrett Casey, Kylie Casey, and Landon Casey; and great-grandchildren: Addie and Mattie Ervin.
