Funeral service for Dib Oquin will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Boling and Rev. Joe Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Fri. 1-7 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
Dib was born November 3, 1916, in Everton, Arkansas. He departed this life on August 24, 2010, at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, OK. Dib was 93 years of age.
Dib married Jewel Medlock on August 20, 1938, in Wagoner, OK. They made their home in Inola for most of their married life. They were married for 67 years. Dib was a farmer, raising cotton. During World War II, he worked at the powder plant in Pryor. Dib was a very hard worker. He later worked for the coal company at Catoosa and then worked at Inola Lumber Company and Rounds & Porter in Tulsa. Although he only had a grade school education, when someone needed to know how much materials would be needed in building a house, Dib was the one who took the measurements and figured the correct amount of materials.
Dib's family joined Inola First Baptist Church in 1951. He later became a deacon and remained one until his death.
Dib was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah Gabriel and Emily Roberta (Holliman) Oquin and eleven brothers and sisters. There were two sets of twins in the family, of which Dib was one. His twin sister died at birth. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jewel, and sons, Max and Jerry.
He is survived by five grandchildren: Kelly Martin and husband, Mickey, of Inola, Gaye Ann Oquin of Inola, Stacy Payne and husband, Mike of Verdigris, Taft Oquin and wife, Michelle of Inola, and Erin Oquin of Inola. He is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Gail Oquin Whitworth and Charlotte Oquin both of Inola. Surviving also are brothers-in-law, Keith Louderback and Bert Medlock, and one sister-in-law, June Medlock all of Inola.
Dib is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Gabe, Katey, Caleb, and J.T. Oquin, Dillon Max Oquin, Bryn, Stacia, and Laef Payne, and Kyla Martin.
