Don Troy "Toad" Hastings, resident of Claremore, Oklahoma, passed away on March 11th, 2012, at the age of 73.
Mr. Hastings was born on the 8th of December, 1938, in Avant, Oklahoma to Lee Roy and Voila Elizabeth Renfro Hastings. As a boy he loved to hunt, fish, and camp out in the areas around Avant with his brothers, Lee Russell Hastings, Herbert Ray Hastings, and Larry Joe Hastings. One of their favorite past times was hunting for opossums and picking blackberries for blackberry pie. At the age of 16, Mr. Hastings joined the United States Army and served as a medic in France.
While stationed in France, Mr. Hastings met and married Maurice Wilson and they had two children, Don Hastings of Pryor, Oklahoma and Debra Sue Gambrell of Kenefick, Texas.
In 1963, Mr. Hastings married Sharon Ann Brown and they had four children; Mary Etta Hasting Utsler of Colorado Springs, Co., Ruth Viann Samuels of Claremore, Ok., John Roland Hastings of Claremore, Ok., and Dallas Gene Hastings of Holdenville, Ok.
After the death of his wife Sharon, Mr. Hastings remarried his first love, Maurice Hastings on February 14th, 1992. They lived together in married bliss for the next 17 years, until she preceded him in death in 2009.
Mr Hasting was a proud grandfather of thirty-four grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren, but this count does not include the numerous “adopted” children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that Mr. Hastings counted as part of his family.
Mr Hastings was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Herbert and Larry Joe Hastings; his sister, Linda Hastings; his wives: Sharon and Maurice Hastings; and he is survived by his children, brother, Lee Russell Hastings, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Visitation is being held from 1:00 to 8:00PM on March 13th at Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory in Claremore. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at Chelsea United Pentecostal Church, on the 14th of March, 2012.
In lieu of flowers the family of Mr. Hastings asks that a donation be made in his name to the Home of Hope in Vinita, OK.
