On December 22, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Helen Powell. Shortly after their marriage in 1957, Pete was drafted into the United States Army which included a 13-month tour in Korea.
Most of Pete's working career was spent in Chelsea. He was a delivery driver for Meadow Gold. One of his favorites was when he operated Gibble Gas in Chelsea in the 1970s. He told many stories of the boys and men that were impacted from working at or visiting the station. He retired after working at the Chelsea Gas Authority. Since his retirement, he worked part time for Four D Energy. During all his working career he still found time to serve as a member of the Chelsea Volunteer Fire Department. Serving from August of 1964 until he retired as the Assistant Fire Chief in 1984.
Pete was active in the community throughout his years. He served with the Chelsea Round Up Club, school, church and civic functions. He was named the Chelsea’s 1986 Citizen of the Year. Pete was also a member and trustee of the First Baptist Church of Chelsea.
