Don David McMillan, 84, Muskogee, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Don was born November 6, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri to David Henry and Hazel Moore McMillan.
Don graduated from Southeast High School, in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1942.
He joined the Navy right after and was in officers’ training, first at Kansas University in Lawrence and then at Park College.
Don graduated in 1946 in business administration from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Don married Nell Arendall on July 5, 1946 in Kansas City. They left Kansas City in 1949, and resided in Turner, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, Kansas, for a short while. Don and Nell moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma in December, 1958, to join Callery Chemical Company. He also worked for Corning Glass Works, in Muskogee, Oklahoma; Bluffton, Indiana; and Corning, New York, from which he retired in 1983. He then established his own consulting firm, Donnell, Inc., and he and Nell traveled all over the world consulting and conducting seminars. Don retired from consulting in 1993. After that, he was an instructor with Connors State College and Northeastern State University. He also worked with Zapata Industries, Volunteers of America and Cherokee Enterprises before retiring the final time in 2004.
Don was a long time member of Memorial Christian Church in Muskogee, prior to joining First Baptist Church in 2005. He was active in a number of ministries of First Baptist, including the prison ministry, food pantry, mentoring and he especially enjoyed serving as a crossing guard for Vacation Bible School each summer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Henry McMillan and Hazel Moore McMillan; his wife Nell McMillan who died May 28, 2003, after 57 years of marriage; and his sister Dorothy McMillan Wells.
He is survived by his wife Lyndia Taylor, married on July 22, 2006 in Muskogee; two sons, David and Susan McMillan and Michael and Sheila McMillan both of Muskogee, Oklahoma; grandchildren; Lisa Roth of Houston, Texas; Julie and Clint Hayes of Muskogee, Oklahoma; R.J. and Leigh Ann McMillan of Muskogee, Oklahoma; and Amy and Brett Mix of Glenpool, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren; Parker and Cooper Hayes of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Toni, Tyler, and Tatum of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Miranda Horton and Autumn Mix of Glenpool, Oklahoma; brothers; Vince Garth, of Las Vegas, Nevada; Myron Garth of Kansas City, Missouri, and William McMillan of El Paso, Texas. Lyndia’s family: daughter Shellie Rhodes and husband Bruce, and their children, Brandon Talbert of Norman, Oklahoma; Sarah Rhodes and Matthew Rhodes of Miami, Oklahoma; son; Spencer Rich and wife Michele and their children, Brenda, Mary Rose, and William of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Memorials may be made to the Children and Youth Camp Scholarship Fund of First Baptist Church, Muskogee, Oklahoma.
