Funeral service for Donald James Walla will be 11:00 am Friday, March 15, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. Donald passed away at his home on Monday, March 4, 2019. He was 81 years old.
Born in Clarkson, Nebraska on August 22, 1937, Donald was the son of Peter John Walla and Lillian V. (Petrasek) Walla. After graduating from High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
On May 25, 1959, Donald and Marietta R. Porter were married in Wichita, Kansas. Don worked as a drywall taper in new home construction. He was a hard worker who followed the construction business to various states including Washington, California, Kansas, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He loved his work and did it well. He had a talent for fixing anything that needed repair.
Don worked hard and played hard. He loved outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting, camping, water skiing, and dirt bike riding. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved steak and lobster. He also loved people, and people loved him. He will be missed by many lifelong friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Peter John and Lillian V. Walla, brother Peter Dennis Walla, and great-grandson Bishop Hayden Harris.
Survivors include his wife Marietta; children Vonda Taylor and husband Michael, Donald Walla and wife Traci, and Evona Newby and husband Don; grandchildren Michael Eugene Taylor, Amber Lynn Taylor-Buffington, Thomas Scott Walla, Anthony Eugene Walla, Sarina Marie Sanchez, David James Callaway, Elaine Marie Callaway, and Ashley Lynn Lowery; great-grandchildren Zachary Lewis Taylor, Autumn Nicole Taylor-Buffington, Riley Sheridan Taylor, Darby Shae Taylor, Callie Rae Sanchez, Elena Marie Sanchez, McKenzie Nicole Walla, Devin Walla, Connor James Callaway, Seth Dean Callaway, Amelia Jean Callaway, Paisley Marie Royal, and Jayden Richard Lowery; sister Donette Walla; and nieces Debbie Clark, Denise McFadden, and DeAnn Clark.
