Memorial service for Doneta Jean Cantrell will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2017 at First United Methodist Church; Pastor Steven Cagle will share words of comfort. Doneta passed away at her home on Friday, August 25, with family by her side. She was 86 years old.
Born August 18, 1931 in Calico Rock, Arkansas to James Henry and Edith Offrie (Huggins) Jennings, Doneta moved with her family as a young girl to Oklahoma, and this is where she received her education. While working at Webbers Root Beer Stand in Tulsa, Doneta met James Allen Cantrell. The couple was married on January 6, 1949, and made several places home before settling in Claremore, and this has been home for 58 years.
Doneta took great care of her family, and made sure they needed nothing. She was a wonderful cook, and made all the holidays special. The couple traveled extensively from coast to coast; seeing all of the United States, their favorite being Glacier National Park. Doneta loved being outside tending her vegetable garden or watching the hummingbirds she lovingly called “brumble birds.” In their early years, she and James enjoyed square dancing, but most of all she loved being around her family.
Those family members that survive include her sons James A. Cantrell, III and wife Joan of Phillip, South Dakota, and John A. Rothrock of Tulsa; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Doneta was preceded in death by her parents, daughters Patty Davis and Stephanie Legg; one brother, and two sisters.
