Funeral service for Doris Ann Chafin will be 10:30 a.m., Fri., July 18, at Verdigris Assembly of God with Brother Harold Brannon officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Elm Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
Doris passed away Tues., July 15, 2014, at the Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 78.
The daughter of Paul and Pearl (Burr) Ferguson was born Jan. 3, 1936, in Pawhuska. She moved to Claremore as a child and attended Claremore schools. She graduated in 1954. Doris married her high school sweetheart, Donald Roy Chafin, on May 15, 1954, at the Claremore Assembly of God. They made their home in Claremore. She worked for Oral Roberts University while Don served in the military; and then went to work for the Claremore Daily Progress as a classified ads clerk. Doris was a member of Verdigris Assembly of God for the past 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; and sisters: Mary Thomas, Wilma Clapp, and Billie Jo Waldrup.
Survivors include her daughter, Donita Whisner and husband, Edward of Claremore; granddaughters: Ashlee and Crystal Whisner of Claremore; great-granddaughter, Alena Donielle Whisner; niece, Barbara Luellen of Claremore, and Linda Gregory of Missouri; and many other nieces and nephews.
