Doris LaVonne Cooper passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at the age of 76.
The daughter of Grover and Edna Beall Smith was born February 23, 1940 in Normantown, West Virginia. There she spent most of her childhood, before moving to Ohio during her senior year. After graduating high school Doris decided to visit her sister who was living in the Claremore area. Once there she was taken on a blind date, and was introduced to Roy Cooper. They would marry on January 13, 1961 in Claremore. In no time at all Claremore became home to Doris. The next several years she concentrated on raising her family. However there were a few occasions when she worked outside of the home, primarily as a care giver at a couple of area nursing homes. She was a member of Washington Baptist Church.
She enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to bluegrass music. There were a few things she looked forward to doing each year, such as traveling back home to West Virginia, and attending bluegrass festivals.
