Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore, Oklahoma.
Doris Gail Wenneker was born in Summerhill, Illinois to Samuel Edward Wenneker and Frankie (née “Williams”) Wenneker on June 5, 1933. She grew up in St. Charles, MO with her siblings Avon, Gordon, and Beverly. After high school, Doris accompanied her older sister Avon to Los Angeles, CA where she met and married Jack Love in 1955. Daughters Susan Louise and Nancy Jane soon followed. In 1959, the family moved to Claremore, OK to became co-owners of Love Air Conditioning. In Claremore, Doris worked as a legal secretary at Bassman and Gordon, helped with the books at Love Air, and took care of their growing family that now included daughters Julie Ann and Lisa Elaine. Doris was good at whatever she put her hands to. An active member of Extension Homemakers, Doris was an accomplished seamstress, making many of the children’s clothes, and a great cook. In her middle years, Doris took up oil painting and proved to be an artist with an eye and knack for beautiful landscapes. She continued to do accounting for Love Air into her 89th year.
The two real passions of Doris’s life were travel and St. Louis baseball. She traveled to many countries and took numerous cruises. She set her clock around Cardinals baseball from April to October. She also loved to watch golf. Doris was a long-time member of 1st Baptist Church of Claremore, having a strong faith that helped her walk through tough times.
Doris died peacefully in the wee hours of May 14, 2023 surrounded by her daughters and the compassionate staff at Courtyards of Claremore Assisted Living. She’s now in the arms of Jesus and her beloved mother.
Doris will be missed and remembered for her quick wit, sharp mind, love for adventure, and faith in God. She is predeceased by her parents and brother. Doris is survived by her sisters Avon ( age 95) and Beverly (age 85). She leaves a living legacy of her four daughters (Susan, Nancy, Julie, and Lisa), 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
