Doris Elaine Ward

Funeral service for Doris Elaine Ward will be 10 a.m., Tues., Jan. 31, at Lifechanger Church with Dr. Ted Estes officiating. Burial will follow at Walker Cemetery in Welch at 3:00 p.m., under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Mon. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6 - 8 p.m.

Doris died Sun., Jan. 22, 2012, at Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 90.

The daughter of Charles A. and Martha Esther (Wilson) Murdock was born May 7, 1921, in Bluejacket. She was the 5th child of 13 Murdock children. On Sept. 3, 1938, at the age of 17 she married Curtis Thaine Ward in Vinita. They made their home in the Timber Hill area where they ran the family farm. In 1950 she and Curtis moved to California. There they began to start a family, and 2 children were born. A few years later in 1955 they moved back to Oklahoma. Moving to Claremore in 1960. Later at the age of 72 she began to work at Walmart. For over eleven years she was a fixture there until retiring at the age of 83. Doris was a strong woman of faith, and an active member of Lifechanger Church. She had been trusting in the Lord since the age of 8. In her spare time Doris enjoyed nothing more than praising the Lord, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis in 1978; her parents; siblings: Vivian Saunders, Charles Murdock, Lee Murdock, Martha Adams, Marvin Murdock, Arlie Murdock, Carl Murdock, Evelyn Pillow, and Don Murdock; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her children: Joyce E. Medlock and husband, Ronnie L. of Verdigris, and Rick D. Ward and wife, Cindy of Claremore; grandchildren: Ronnie L. Medlock, Jr. and wife, Michelle of Verdigris, Gregory A. Medlock and wife, April of Verdigris, Richard D. Ward, Jr. and wife, Kelli of South Coffeyville, and Rebecca L. Ward of Claremore; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Ollie M. Newhart of Vancouver, WA, Clara L. Bullis of Portland, OR, and Ethelyn T. Lee and husband, Leon of Temecula, CA.
