Funeral service for Dorothy Louise Burchett will be 2 p.m., Wed., Feb. 1, at First Christian Church, Talala, with Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Talala, under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory, Claremore. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 1-8 p.m.
Dorothy died Sat., Jan. 28, 2012, at Frances Streitel Senior Care Center, Collinsville, at the age of 80.
The daughter of George Everett and Erma (Garrison) Ballard was born Jan. 21, 1932, in Cherokee Central. Dorothy attended school at Cherokee Central and Chelsea. She married Fred Burchett and they made their home in the Talala area. She worked as a secretary at Farm Bureau for 10 years. She later married Bill Yocum. In 1977, Dorothy opened Daylite Donuts; and retired in 1997 after 20 years of running the restaurant. Dorothy was active in the First Christian Church of Talala. She enjoyed lawn work and gardening. She was an avid sports fan. Her favorites were Michael Jordan, OU, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Leroy Ballard.
She is survived by her sons: Larry Burchett and wife, Johanna, and Tim Burchett and wife, Patti all of Talala; grandchildren: Dax Burchett of Talala, and Katie Walton and husband, J.D. of Denver, CO; great-grandchild, Jaxson Burchett of Talala; brother, Darrell Ballard and wife, Mary of Bartlesville; and sisters: Norma Harrell of Owasso, Mary Thurman and husband, Marvin of Bartlesville, Joyce Farnum and husband, Larry of Oologah, Sharron Cunningham and husband, Orville of Bartlesville, and Karen Ward and husband, Art of Ramona.
