Funeral service Dorothy "Dot" Plett will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Chouteau. Burial will follow at Parkside Cemetery in Inola under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m.
Dorothy passed away January 14, 2013 at the age of 77.
The daughter of Carl and Kathleen DeLoe Young was born August 29, 1935 in Yakima, Washington. As a young girl she and her family moved to Oklahoma, settling in the Tulsa area. There she began attended Tulsa schools, graduating from Central High in 1954. Wanting to continue her education she enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist University. A short time later while on a blind date she met a young service man named Rudolph Plett. While on leave from Germany, they were married February 25, 1956 at the First Baptist Church of Tulsa. She spent the next two years in California , until her husband was discharged from the Army. They returned to Tulsa, where she worked for a few companies such as the Tulsa World, Zebco and Lawrence Electronics. She then opened her own business "Dot's Hair Corner" in Tulsa. She owned and operated it for over 15 years before retiring. In 2004 after the death of her husband she moved to Inola. In her spare time she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, gardening, playing bingo, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Kathleen; husband, Rudolph "Rudy" Plett; son, Richard Isaac "Rick" Plett, Sr.; and brothers, Richard Lee Young, Carl James Young and Robert Young.
Survivors include her children, Lydia K. Laughlin and husband Harold; Pamela E. Reed and husband Ron, Jimmy D. Plett, Rebecca D. Shambrook and husband Anthony, Vickie S. Hood and husband Kevin, Dorothy A. Chastain and husband James and Rudolph Plett Jr.; daughter-in-law, Penny L. Plett; 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
