Memorial service for Doug Norfleet will be 3:00p.m., Monday, August 25, 2014 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Charles Ragland will officiate. Doug passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. He was 76.
Doug was born November 9, 1937 in Claremore to William L. and Zelma J. (Boyd) Norfleet. He was reared and educated in his birth community, graduating from Claremore High with the class of 1955. Doug married Dorothy Sumter in the spring of 1955, following their graduation. The couple made their home in Claremore and was blessed with two children.
Doug worked in many different jobs through the years. He worked for his parents at the dry cleaners and for both the city’s water and electric departments. Then he began a career with the Claremore Fire Department, retiring at assistant chief. Doug was most happy raising cattle and working at his ranch. He was a very creative person and could design and build almost anything. He just needed to see how it was done and then he could create an almost exact duplicate, maybe a little better than the original. Never completely retiring, Doug started a new venture raising dogs. A sharp dresser, you never saw him not looking his best and sporting around in a nice car. He loved his children and always made sure they had what they needed.
Survivors include his children Mitchell Douglas “Mitch” Norfleet and wife Linda and daughter Mary Pat Bowman and husband Rick all of Claremore; his grandchildren Jeremy Denton, Donny Denton, James Potter, Luke Bowman, Gina Foster and husband Chris, Amy Bunch and husband Bobby, Brandy Collins and husband Blain, Melissa Collins and husband Nation and Bruce Norfleet; 17 great grandchildren. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Zelma Norfleet.
