Services for Earl Melton Couch will be 2:00p.m., Friday, March 20, 2015 at The Sanctuary Christian Worship Center; burial will follow at Winganon Cemetery under the direction of Chelsea Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Earl passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the age of 86.
Born October 28, 1928 in Chouteau, Oklahoma to Bertha Couch, Earl was reared and educated in Foyil. During his school years Earl played basketball and also boxed. Following his graduation in 1947, he began working in construction as a heavy equipment operator. Earl retired from Empire Construction and started a coal company, “Couch & Sons”. He and his sons operated the coal company for 10 years. On July 15, 1950, Earl married Wanda Lucille Whiteside and together they were blessed with 4 children. In his younger years, Earl loved to rodeo, especially roping events. He sponsored several softball teams and was involved with the FFA. He was his kids and grandkids biggest fan at their sporting events through the years. Those weekly card games with his family were very special to him. Earl looked forward to the many family reunions and also the camping trips in the 5th wheel.
A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, Earl is survived by his wife Wanda of their home in Chelsea; his children Larry Couch and wife Janna of Chelsea, Earletta Webb and husband Frank of Owasso, Billy Don Couch and wife Lisa of Adair and Vicki Self also of Chelsea; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and many extended nieces, nephews and cousins. Earl was preceded in death by his mother Bertha, granddaughter Shannon Carlock, his son-in-law Tommy Self, brothers Arnold and Wayne Couch and sister Wanda Morrow.
